Welcome to the Sunshine Coast Yacht Club, a sailboat racing club operating from beautiful Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast of B.C.

Our purpose is to facilitate regular races, and special events for sailors of all levels of expertise.

While we sail in a spirit of friendly competition, our number one objective is for skippers and crew to enjoy being out there!

Membership is affordable - see the Membership page.

Come and try us out - on race days, usually Sunday.  Races start at 11:30am.

During the Covid emergency we are not having any physical meetings before racing.

2020 Sunday races

During the Covid 19 prevention period the SCYC temporarily stopped organizing regular Sunday races , a few private keen sailors stepped up and continued with mostly pursuit races, while still respecting Government virus prevention protocols (i.e. no pre-race skippers meetings, skippers sailing either single handed or with people from within their "bubble").

Effective November the SCYC has defined its policy for sailing under the pandemic (see the updated Sailing Instructions on the Club Racing page) and has resumed responsibility for running the regular Sunday races. We will continue with a mix of pursuit starts and regular starts.

Gibsons Regatta 2020

The 2nd Annual Gibsons Regatta "Sea Cavalcade" regatta took place on Saturday, July 25, 2020. See the details on the regatta page.

A record fleet of 23 boats enjoyed perfect conditions - sun and steady wind for the beautiful 12 mile course around the islands between Gibsons and Bowen Island.

The first boat home was Topless, skippered by Bob Armstrong, and results on handicap were:

1st Aura, Tanzer 26, solo sailed by Ignacio Vuillez

2nd Topless, Catalina 37

3rd Ruckus, Martin 242, skipper Dave Pritchard

See the regatta page for detailed results.

Here is a photo of the trophy being presented by David Sverre to winner, Ignacio, who once again showed us how well he can sail his 26' Tanzer single handed!

Sail measurement Clinic

Ignacio Vuillez, our local sailmaker and winning skipper of Aura, conducted a well attended clinic at Dougall Park on July 18th

- see photos on the Events page.

Since the clinic Ignacio has helped several skippers to measure sails and to get a fair PHRF rating.
